Brett did an amazing job in not only converting EPT to TBH, but also in fitting everything into a mere 64 pages, including cover, legal, etc. Tékumel saw its first published form in 1975 with Empire of the Petal Throne, the second game published by TSR, Inc, the makers of the incredibly popular role-playing game Dungeons and Dragons. Some are black, some heavily gilded, a few orange, but the majority blue and perfectly plain, except for the glyphs several hikh long identifying the clan down the middle of each, gold on the blue and black, and black on the gold and blue. Black Ss, Ahoggy, Pchi Li, Swamp Folk Just some of the many non-humanoid races of. Here The Petal Hack has enough background not to feel like an anthropological treatise, but an approachable, facinating background for newcomers to game in. The Pros The setting of Tekumel (Empire of the Petal Throne) is often loved or hated because of it's depth and complexiety. This version of the game is simple enough to jump into that I could probably get my current group to try it as an off-night game. I still have my boxed set with the extra full-color maps printed on thick plastic like shower curtains. I bought the original EPT back in the late '70s. It is a hack of The Black Hack, a streamlined, rules-light roleplaying game based on the Original Fantasy Roleplaying Game. Barker's fantastical sword and planet world that was first published as Empire of the Petal Throne in 1975. Nicely with the simple mechanics from The Black Hack. The Petal Hack (TPH) is a roleplaying game set on Tkumel, M.A.R. The Petal Hack takes all the cool elements from EPT and mates them up The only thing lacking is in-depth information about this unique campaign world but the introduction has links to several excellent sites which provide plenty of resources.
BLACK HACK EMPIRE OF THE PETAL THRONE PDF
The pdf is just 64 pages and yet it provides just about everything to play. The Petal Hack authored by Brett Slocum is a hack of the old Empire of the Petal Throne (EPT) game using The Black Hack rules. This poster conveys more of the decadent grandeur of Athas than most of the words written about it. Elements of Empire of the Petal Throne, grand Hollywood costume epics, and Dave's fascination with ancient cultures all shine through. One item I obtained, particularly reasonably priced in that it's free, was The Petal Hack. Dave's style is what makes this effort stand out. Okay, so I was perusing the cornucopia of gaming goodness which is DriveThruRPG, drawn there by their "Christmas in July" sale, and purchased several reasonable priced items.
